On Wednesday, Weezer's Rivers Cuomo debuted the band's newest track, "LA Girlz," on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 radio show. The song is off Weezer's upcoming self-titled LP, dubbed The White Album, due out April 1st via Crush Management.
Cuomo said in a statement coming with the album announcement, "The inspiration behind the songs were my experiences hanging around the west side of Los Angeles, which has been our home since Weezer began." The singer went on to add, "Hanging out with people in Venice and Santa Monica, the beach, the Hare Krishnas, the Sikh on roller blades with the guitar, girls on Tinder within a 4-mile radius, seeing other bands, the kids from La Sera. I would just tweet out 'does anybody wanna hang?' And then I'd get together with people who responded and talk about life. I love California. I wanted the album to make you feel like you were there with us SoCal weirdos even if you're in Milwaukee in December."
Cuomo has dubbed Weezer's upcoming release as the "L.A. beach album." "LA Girlz" is the fourth track released from the record, along with "King of the World," "Thank God for Girls," and "Do You Wanna Get High?"
In March and April, the band will play four gigs in the U.S., U.K., and the Netherlands, followed by an extensive tour throughout North America this summer. They are also scheduled to play two shows in Japan in late August.
