If loving the Spice Girls is wrong, then call us guilty, too
Will Oldham, Superchunk, Devendra Banhart on Guilty Pleasure Compilation
Even though we're not sure what a guilty pleasure is—why not unrepentantly just enjoy a song?—we'll still report the upcoming music compilation Guilty By Association, a mixed representation of indie rock bands covering mainstream pop songs on Engine Room Recordings. The August 28th release features Will Oldham covering Mariah Carey, the Mooney Suzuki covering Cher, and Superchunk covering Destiny's Child."A lot of really great bands were being dropped from the major labels at that time, and we thought it would be a cool idea to have bands like that cover some of the acts that were actually being supported by the majors," said Engine Room's Wes Verhoeve. "The bands that were approached were all very enthused by the whole concept, and many of them even had a song in mind right away."
This is the tracklisting:
01 "Don't Stop Believin'" (Journey) - Petra Haden
02 "Don't Look Back in Anger" (Oasis) - Devendra Banhart
03 "From This Moment On" (Shania Twain) - Mark Mulcahy

06 "Viva Forever" (Spice Girls) - Jim O'Rourke
