Just last month the cast of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunited for an afternoon to hang and chat and share some heart-warming pics on social platforms. For people who know every word of the iconic theme song to that show there's good news — Will Smith and Jazzy Jeff are set to take to the stage for a couple of August festivals.
The hip hop duo are scheduled to headline Livewire Festival in the U.K., which runs August 25th to 27th, before heading over to mainland Europe to appear at MTV Summerblast in Croatia, which runs August 25th to 26th.
The last brief reunion that saw Smith and Jazzy Jeff perform together happened in 2016, when they took the annual Roots Picnic by storm. Before that, in 2013, the duo appeared on the BBC's Graham Norton Show where they performed a medley of their most famous tunes with Alfonso Ribeiro (cousin Carlton from the Fresh Prince) rapping and dancing. These summer dates for 2017 are the first full-concerts that we've seen since 2005.
Under the moniker The Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff, Smith and Jazzy have released five albums together. In 1991 came their biggest hit — the GRAMMY-winning ubiquitous "Summertime". When Smith's Hollywood career took off his focus shifted from providing happy hip-hop tales to fighting aliens in some of the highest grossing movies of the decade.
Fans of the duo will be heartened to hear that Smith and Jazzy Jeff are back together, undoubtedly playing the classic songs that soundtrack every barbecue you've ever attended. Perhaps more exciting is that Smith reports they have something like 30 new songs to share — which, of course, does beg the question — "Is a new album on the way?" All eyes are on Bel-Air.
