The Harvey Can't Mess with Texas benefit concert will take place September 22nd, at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, Texas. Headlining performances include stars Willie Nelson, Paul Simon, James Taylor, and Bonnie Raitt. Other appearances will include Leon Bridges, Lyle Lovett, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, Ryan Bingham, and Ha*Ash.
Celebrity guests Matthew McConaughey, Dan Rather, Renee Zellweger, and Luke Wilson will round out the bill, with all proceeds and donations going to the Rebuild Texas Fund. Google has pledged to match all donations up to $500,000. Paul Simon had previously donated $1 million to the relief efforts.
All money raised by the Rebuild Texas Fund will focus on four critical areas in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey's flooding and damage: health and housing, schools and childcare, workforce and transportation, and capital for small businesses.
Tickets are available starting at 3pm Central Time today, September 13th. The show will also be broadcast commercial free on multiple television stations and will stream at www.YouTube.com/TexasStrong from 9-10 pm Central Time.
Steve Adler, the Mayor of Austin, said, "We got lucky when Hurricane Harvey avoided Austin, but though it missed us, it hit our neighbors hard. Every time I've asked you to help our neighbors you've risen to the challenge. Now we have an opportunity to do good by being our best, and that means putting on a show and having a good time. Let's show the world what it means to be the Live Music Capital of the World in the greatest state in the Union. I'll be there and hope to see you, too."
On Tuesday, September 12, the Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Relief raised over $44 million. Hurricanes Harvey and Irma are collectively projected to have caused up to $200 billion in damage, however.
