While Amy Winehouse and Kanye West led last night's Grammy Awards in wins (five and four, respectively), neither could top Herbie Hancock's River: The Joni Letters in the album of the year category. The left-field selection—a Joni Mitchell covers album—was easily the biggest upset of the evening despite its other nod as best contemporary jazz album.

Not that it overshadowed Winehouse or West in the end; while the former performed "Rehab" (her song of the year winner) and "You Know I'm No Good" from London via satellite, West brought Daft Punk onstage for a rousing, Dayglo-doused rendition of "Stronger." The unexpected collaboration was the duo's first-ever TV appearance. Other key performances included the Time's reunited, belting out their 1984 hit "Jungle Love" and joining Rihanna in a medley of "Umbrella" (a winner for best rap/sung collaboration) and "Don't Stop the Music"; "The Pretender," as interpreted by Foo Fighters and My Grammy Moment contest winner, violinist Ann Marie Calhoun; and "Learnin' the Blues," Alicia Keys' faux duet with Frank Sinatra, meant as a tribute to Grammy's 50 years as the music industry's leading award show.
