Talenthouse sponsored a competition to remix Korn tracks, the details of which can be viewed here.
Over 200+ mixes of "Get Up!" + "Narcissistic Cannibal" were uploaded to the site over a four-week period. But the winner is 18-year-old Maximilian, who will open for Korn in Milwaukee on Feb. 25 at The Eagles Ballroom as part of his prize loot.
Read below to find out what Maximilian had to say about his submission + himself. Dreams really do come true with Korn!
1) What was your inspiration for this submission?
My inspiration for this submission came from a couple different places. I really like electronic dance music, and over the past year I've been working towards establishing myself as a producer/DJ. A friend of mine who's on my label (Heavy Artillery Recordings) posted in our group on Facebook about the remix contest so I thought it would be a good way to promote myself. I figure that the more music I make the better I'll get. Seeing that I'd never really done a remix of another artist before I figured I'd try it. I love music in general and making/playing it live is what really keeps me going. I could talk about it forever given the chance.
2) How has Korn influenced you as an artist?
I remember listening to Korn in middle-school, and being amazed by the song "Twisted Transistor." I've always thought they were a great band, and when their new album came out it really blew my mind. A lot of my favorite producers helped out with that record, and it's really awesome to see and hear how the different genres of music came together to form one epic album. Even though I make electronic music I'm still really a heavy metal kid at heart, and to see one of my favorite bands from earlier in my life come together with my present day favorite artists is truly inspirational. Music is all about evolution and change, and these guys are really nailing it right now.
3) What other interests do you have in addition to remixing?
As I said earlier I love making and playing my own music. My dream is to someday put out an album on Skrillex's record label (OWSLA) and to tour everywhere. I'm currently writing my first album, and I'm shooting to have it out around April/May. Aside from DJ'ing I have a two man band with one of my good friends. We do psychedelic rock; I play bass, drums, and do the production while he plays the guitar, and we're also working on our first album. I'm currently attending college at MTSU to get a degree in their recording industry program, and eventually someday I plan on being a big name producer. I have a lot of dreams, but I know through hard work and effort I can make all of them happen.
