Sub Pop just announced short-lived cult indie band Wolf Parade has reunited after a 5-year break and will sit in for a series of residency shows in North America and the UK. The band spread the word via its newly launched social media accounts and a fancy new website earlier today.
This comes as great news for the band's many fans who were bummed when the foursome, comprised of members Spencer Krug, Dan Boeckner, Arlen Thompson, and Dante DeCaro, went on indefinite hiatus too soon back in 2010 after a series of exceptionally well-received albums. "Since then," writes Pitchfork, "we've heard new music from Krug as Moonface, and Boeckner, with Divine Fits, Operators, and the now-defunct Handsome Furs."
The band released this statement about the reunion: "Hey-o everyone, the hiatus is over! We're very excited to get back on stage together at these residency shows in NYC, Toronto, and London. We'll be playing our favorites from from the old albums, of course, as well as a taste or two of some new tunes we've been writing. Hope to see you there! xo, WP."
The residencies include five nights in mid-May at New York's Bowery Ballroom (May 17th-21st), three at Toronto's Lee's Palace (May 24th-26th), and two performances at London's Scala (June 14th-15th). Tickets are available now at WolfParade.com.
Sub Pop reminds us, "Wolf Parade formed in Montreal in 2004 [and] released three universally acclaimed records for Sub Pop -- Apologies to the Queen Mary (2005), At Mount Zoomer (2008), and Expo 86 (2010)."
