The Associated Press reports that a young woman died Sunday, July 3rd, while another person was injured, after they fell from a tower at the Roskilde music festival in Denmark, police said.
Here's what we know: The woman was between 25 and 30 years of age and she died after falling from a 98-foot tower in the festival's camping area. Another attendee was also lightly injured in the same fall.
The tower was the starting point for an aerial cable ride run by one of the festival's sponsors. Police don't know what caused the accident and haven't yet identified the victims. I am curious as to what they were doing on a 98-foot tower. That's not somewhere I would want to hang out. And I'm not even afraid of heights.
Festival spokesman Mads Mikkelsen labeled the accident as "very tragic," but declined to comment further until he had received more detailed information from the police.
The Roskilde Festival is Denmark's largest rock festival, having sold over 75,000 tickets for this year's event. This particular accident is the first fatal incident to occur at the festival since 2000, when nine people were killed and 43 more were injured when an uncontrolled mob pushed forward during Pearl Jam's performance.
Have you ever attended a festival outside of the US? What do you think of this tragic news?
