Revenge needs soundtrack, and You Again director Andy Fickman was more than happy to provide one.

One of the strains of You Again's hilarious multi-layered plot involves Kristen Bell's Marni attempting—in vain—to exact revenge on the mean girl, Joanna [Odette Yustman], who made her life miserable during high school. The joke's really on Marni, as her brother is in love with Joanna and nothing's going to change that. Nevertheless, all kinds of unforgettable hijinks ensue and Fickman architects the perfect modern screwball comedy in the process.

In honor of You Again hitting theaters Friday September 24th, ARTISTdirect.com editor spoke to director Andy Fickman about what songs would be on the perfect revenge playlist! Here they are…

Andy Fickman's You Again "Revenge Playlist:"

    1. a-ha — "Take On Me"

"The perfect revenge song! Once they hear it, they will never be able to get it out of their heads. You will hear “Take on me…” for the rest of your life and will ultimately go mad.

    2. Elton John — "The Bitch is Back"

"The best way to say hello to someone from your past who did you wrong. Also, a great way to welcome anyone whose legal name is 'The Bitch'."

    3. Britney Spears — "Oops!...I Did It Again"

"The only song to play after you have done something that you have been repeatedly told not to do."

    4. Carly Simon — "You're So Vain"

"I don't get this one, yet everyone always sends it to me."

    5. Edwin Starr — "War"

"The perfect song to let someone you love know how you’re feeling."

    6. Falco — "Der Kommissar"

"I'm not sure what the lyrics mean, as it's in German, but it sounds really, really angry. (Not to be confused with '99 Luftballoons' by Nena, which is also equally angry sounding.)"

    7. Green Day — "Good Riddance"

"Nothing celebrates a breakup more than this song."

    8. Harry Nilsson — "The Puppy Song"

"Nothing drives cat people crazy like this song."

    9. Ben Folds Five — "Give Me My Money Back You Bitch"

"A tender way to express your feelings to someone after a date."
