Yusuf Islam has announced a string of dates across the USA. The musician formerly known as Cat Stevens will perform his first public New York City shows since 1976. He canceled his 2014 show in protest over the state of New York's scalping laws.
Returning to the road this fall for a 12-night run of shows, Islam promises to present evenings of intimacy, sharing stripped down versions of his material which span the 50 years since his first single "I Love My Dog".
Dubbed "A Cat's Attic" tour, the shows kick off September 12th at the Sony Centre for Performing Arts in Toronto, and wrapping with a two night stand at the Pantages Theatre in Los Angeles on October 6th and 7th. The tour will take him to major markets, playing mid-sized theaters. Tickets are set to go on sale Monday, August 15.
Fans who join Islam's Redroom fan club through his website will be able to purchase pre-sale tickets from August 11th at 10 a.m. local time through August 14th at 10 p.m. local time. A portion of every ticket will be donated to UNICEF and the International Rescue Committee to help children affected by the ongoing refugee crisis.
Stevens' latest release was 2014's "Tell 'Em I'm Gone," an album he recorded with Rick Rubin. In June Yusuf Islam shared the new track, "He Was Alone," written after a visit to a Syrian refugee camp in southern Turkey.
