Zendaya Bails on Aaliyah Biopic

After much drama and chatter, Zendaya will no longer play Aaliyah in the upcoming Lifetime biopic about the late singer.
Zendaya was set to star in Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, amid controversy from fans and family that did not support the film overall. Save for a few haters, the drama really had nothing to do with Zendaya and the casting, but with the film itself.
Aaliyah died in a plane crash in 2001, at the tender age of 22.
Z, who is 17, bailed because she felt the film is not up to par in terms of the production schedule. While she WANTS to play Aaliyah, she feels she can't do her justice at this point and in this film.
She said, "I just felt the project wasn't 100 percent there. I feel, production-wise, everything just felt a little rushed. And I think because she's someone I admire and I love so much, it can't be done halfway, or not to the standards I think it should be done at, so I just decided not to do it," she told MTV.
That's very diplomatic of her. We can't help but wonder if she is bouncing because of all the controversy, since Aaliyah's family is not backing the film and some fans were questioning her ability to embody the late singer since she is so young.
Zendaya furthered, "By all means, when the right project comes along and it's done the right way I'll be the first person ready to play Aaliyah, but this wasn't the right one for me. I've been into Aaliyah since I was little, so there wasn't too much getting into character. I always pretend I'm her anyway."
Due to Zendaya's exit, production on the project is now on hold.
Do you think this biopic is doomed?
