Singer and actres Zendaya Coleman will portray late singer Aaliyah, who died in an August 2001 plane crash at the height of her fame and at the tender age of 22, in a new Lifetime TV biopic. The late R&B singer's family is not happy about the film, titled Aaliyah: Princess of R&B. Neither are fans.
Even though the family does not like the film, the members of the family have urged fans not to attack Coleman, 17, for her participation.
Of the role, Z said, "I really want it to be perfect for her and show young people what she was able to do and what she accomplished. If you want something done right, you've got to do it yourself. I can't please everybody. What I can do is work really hard and you know, just continue to show her legacy… I feel like she grew up so young and she grew up in the industry… and she just had to deal with so much. I connect with that."
What a grownup way of viewing this!
Shooting begins this summer.
Will you watch this biopic despite the criticisms?
