For the 8th year in the row, the most venerable of all alternative weeklies gives NYC residents a good reason to head out to Coney Island. The free festival mirrors the paper's—and the city's—tatse, as it curates the line-up with both emerging and iconic indie rock bands. The initial lineup includes former Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus' recent side project, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, as well as neophtye rockers The Dodos and Times New Viking. Though only a few acts have been announced, don't be surprised to see more old-timers topping the bill; 2006 saw New York Dolls rocking the top spot and giving daytime revelers a glamorous send-off into the night.

* Band lists are not necessarily complete, please check the official festival page for a full lineup.
