CROONeR Biography
Have you ever been dissed by the opposite sex? Did you ever fall in love with someone who will probably never love you back? Did you ever make one of those mistakes that you will regret for the rest of your life but became a better person for it? CROONeR has. And that is what's been fueling this Los Angeles-based band for the last 2 years. Driving pop songs that don't insult your intelligence and are nevertheless honest and real(You can chew your gum and listen to CROONeR all at the same time!) Tales of infatuation, heart-ache, missed chances, alien-kidnappings and Parker Posey are only a few topics that turn into songs when CROONeR adds their distinct melodic stylings and arrangements. They are filled with a unique sense of humor which takes the dullness out of the pop songs but does not sacrifice the simplistic truth of one.
CROONeR is the creation of songwriter/singer/guitarist Christopher Guanlao. Born and bred in Hollywood,ca, Christopher decided to go his own musical path when he realized that there was no place for his particular style of songwriting in the prior bands that he was involved with. Raised on albums of 70s folk singers and lip-synching to ABBA, he found his way through the 80s with the new wave movement which inevitably veered it's path into loud guitar music of the early 90s. Bored of the depressing subjects of not fitting in and the angst of being a teenager, he decided to seek enlightenment through the route of indie pop.
With the help of his partners in crime-Buffalo's Peter DiBiasio sets a punchy, melodic mood on bass, Silverlake's Nikki Monninger plays synth stylings on keyboard and sings delicate bkgd vocals, Seattle's John Broeckel, with his straight forward, in your face drumming-they have toured across the US and back while putting on a live show that is both exhilarating and fun to watch. A breath of fresh air in a time when music is all too pretty and mundane.
