andrius mamontovas Biography
Andrius Mamontovas was born on 1967 08 23 in Vilnius, Lithuania. First steps related with music were then in the fourth class for 'bout one year he attended music school (guitar class). the same year, as he said, he for the first time with his class mates played something... of course these facts were not basic :)
some real playing began when he was in the 10th class. He and his friends were asked to prepare musical program. One of the songs they prepared was named 'sunki muzika' ('hard music').For some period of time it was official bands name, later it was changed into 'FOJE'.
FOJE made their firs public concert in 1985. it was student?s festival FIDI.
During the next 3 years FOJE appeared in few more festivals: 'Lituanica "86', 'Lituanica "88', 'Roko Marsas "89'' and also took part in films : 'Kazkas Atsitiko' ("86), and 'Parodu Rumai' ("87). Starting at 1986 FOJE began their trip to popularity.
There were festivals in Poland, Germany etc. While talking 'bout Poland it could be mentioned that there was recorded mc "gali skambeti keistai". In 1991, this album was released as CD in U.S.A. (not for American public) and this was the first Lithuanian CD. unfortunately group was fooled and received only 60 copies of the CD. (this album was re-released later by 'BOMBA').
From 1989 until 1996, FOJE released some 13 albums (thought few were/ are not for sale).
When in 1994 FOJE released album 'kai perplauksi upe?, they were 'on top'. Unfortunately, breakdown began. Silent disagreements between band members began.
In 1995 leader of the band Andrius Mamontovas released his solo album 'Pabegimas' also the same name single was released on mc, and it was the first Lithuanian single. By that time, Andrius Mamontovas disagreed that it is the first sign of the clash of the band. He said he wanted to make something different of what he made with FOJE. Certainly it was.
In 1993 the book 'bout the group FOJE was published. there was one sentence by Andrius Mamontovas : "we reached everything in Lithuania. I can't imagine what else could we make."
in 1996, FOJE tried to make some progress as a group. FOJE released album in English 'The Flowing River EP'. With this album, they had few performances in United Kingdom. Copies of the album were sent to many stations in U.K., but there was no success.
The same year album '1982' was recorded. It became the last band's album.
In 1997 FOJE played the last three big concerts and the Lithuanian legend called FOJE has died. On the year 1999 the album "Vilnius- Kaunas- Klaipeda", which was compilated from the best songs on that concert was realeased.
It is still difficult to say what are the primary reasons for FOJE breakdown 'cause this group never was the scandal one. FOJE was closed as possible or at least it seamed so.
One of the reasons could be that mentioned by Andrius Mamontovas that group reached everything what's possible and it's better to separate while FOJE is on top, then to play until they'll be totally forgotten.
Actually, there was no convincing version until official breakdown.
Then was one interview with Andrius Mamontovas in which he told the real reason is that the atmosphere in group became insufferable. All the members of the band have their own families and the thing is that the group is seen as money and nothing more. Everybody wanted more. So the deal was money.
In 1997, Andrius Mamontovas under pseudonym 'TRANZAS' released dance music album. Actually nothing real was done.
One of the reasons was that Andrius Mamontovas was invited by Eimuntas Nekrosius to play Hamlet's role under Sheakspear.
And finally in the summer of 1998 Mamontovas released single "TV DAINA". And in autumn the new album " SIAURES NAKTIS. PUSE PENKIU" was released. it is something different from his first solo album "PABEGIMAS".
Andrius Mamontovas is one of the most popular artists in Lithuania. his interviews are always most interesting and in general he is one of the most complex persons I know (from interviews) his answers are between something from another dimension and totally nonsense :)
On 1999 07 16 Andrius Mamontovas warmed up Brian Adams on his 'On A Day Like Today' tour.
Andrius Mamontovas was involved in some projects. He created song for Nida festival. Organized charity concerts oParamao. He helped groups, some of whom now are one of the most popular in Lithuania. These are: SEL, Naktines Personosa, Skampa, Biplana, Tomas Augulisa etc.
His last recorded album is "ANAPILIS". It's 'live' concert recorded in the same name music club in Palanga.
Think, starting this year Mamontovas one more time began to play few promotional concerts in foreighn countries, this time as a solo artist. And starting with the year 2000 for foreighn audiences he wil be known as CLOUDMAKER. The same year he's going to realease his first new album in english under this pseudonym.
