UND DER GANZE REST Biography
2 saxophones, 1 guitar, 1 female speaker/singer and some electronics. Weird german lyrics,
confusing breaks, heavy guitarriffs, chaotic songstructures and slightly irritating moments. In one word: INDUSTRIAL ARTCORE
UND DER GANZE REST was formed in 1990 by Frank Christian Stoffel and was at first an ambitious art project. Therefore the activities were focussed on participation in several performances in cologne.
But soon the idea behind the instrumentation - and the music resulting from it - developped a life of its own. After several recastings the project grew up to a "real" band. So the the main activities shifted to regular concerts.
Nevertheless from these first days a certain ignorance of musical influences, especially the mainstream on MTV and VIVA (german musictelevison) has been preserved. Rather Mangas, B-Pictures, Science-Fiction, Horror and Splatter movies serve as an inexhaustible source of inspiration both for the lyrics and the musical structures.
Those are carefully worked out over and over again for every piece by Frank Christian Stoffel, the creative head of the group. At the same time the famework is cleary defined by the balance of the self chosen pop/rock-context and the artistic demands. So all the Metal-, Hardcore-, Hip-Hop-, Industrial- and Crossover-Purists may recognize elements of their music, but not only, and not nearly in a familiar way.
UND DER GANZE REST can now look back to eventful concerts. Besides the usual gigs in several clubs (e.g. at the "Popkomm" in cologne) there are always cross-border projects, like the "In-Symbiose" with the cologne band "KRANK", which has been staged at the "Ballroom-Blitz", hosted by the cologne-culture-department. Some other highlights were the "Triebwerk-Fetival '97" organized by the "Rockbnro NRW" and the participation at the interdisciplinary "Kultur-Sommer" hosted by the "Kulturgarage" in Stralsund. At the moment they are working on a new project with Georg Heike, a phonetician and composer of modern E-Music, where the borders between pop and classical music-culture will be crossed. Recently some first outcomes have been presented at the "15. Musiksommer" in Ostfriesland.
