Stuart Broomer & John Mars Biography
Pianist Stuart Broomer and drummer John Mars spent at least half of the '70s working in a trio named Broomer, Mars & Smith. Just before 1980, Broomer and Mars left Smith behind to form a duo that they unceremoniously called Stuart Broomer & John Mars. Although Mars was an accomplished singer, he only held the part of a musician in this small assembly. That being the case, the guys brought in a number of gifted guest singers to perform with them.
In 1983, Stuart Broomer & John Mars recorded a debut album, Annihilated Surprise, released under Ugly Dog Records, a label Mars owned and that they had worked under before with other groups. The album won the duo the attention of Move Records in Scotland, and although a contract was signed between the parties, nothing much ever came of the deal. The one album Stuart Broomer & John Mars did complete from its collaboration was re-released 16 years later. John Mars also served as frontman for the rock group Brian's Children and later switched to a solo career. ~ Charlotte Dillon, All Music Guide
