Biography

Many thanks to all our users who submitted questions for our "Ask the Artist" feature with Kings of Leon. It wasn't easy to tear these hard-working Southern boys away from their busy touring schedule -- not to mention all those groupies -- but we finally cornered drummer Nathan Followill long enough to pose a few of your best questions to him. We hope you find his answers as entertaining and informative as we did.

1. You guys said you were sheltered from music as kids. When you finally did listen to music, how old were you and what did you listen to? (Jordie from Lakewood, CA)

I was about 17 and was listening to Tommy James and the Shondells and Chuck Berry.

2. You often talk about how poor you guys were growing up. Now that you are making money, are you wise and thrifty with it? (Smiler from England)

Oh, we're tight asses with our money!

3. Who are some of your musical influences that people usually don't pick up on? (Gil from Chicago)

Old Gospel acts and singers no one knows the names of. Ones from country ass towns in the South.

4. You guys are such an inspiration to me. I was wondering, who are your biggest inspirations? (Emily from West Sussex, England)

Johnny Cash, The Band, Patsy Cline, Talking Heads, Joy Division, Townes Van Zandt are some.

5. Who are the girls you are singing about in "Soft" and "Day Old Blues? Me maybe? (Annie from Stockholm, Sweden)

Definitely you!

6. Which city or country do enjoy touring the most? And why? (Melissa from Antwerp, Belguim)

We love touring Spain for the late night atmosphere. You don't even eat dinner until about midnight there. And we love touring the States -- keeping it close to home.

7. What's the funniest thing that's happened on the tour? (Cristina Inclan from Oviedo, Spain)

Last night (3/13/05) in Dallas -- Caleb dancing to The Features' set in his bikini underwear in the stairwell of the Gypsy Ballroom. Only The Features could see him, and they were onstage at the time so it was great.

8. Who's the biggest troublemaker in the group? (Concepcion from Oakland, CA)

Used to be Rooster [Caleb's drunken alterego], but he's tamed down now, so Matt.

9. What do you guys like to do in your spare time? (Renee Garrison from Virginia Beach, VA)

Play golf, drink wine and find fat chicks for the crew.

10. What other bands would you like to tour with? (Raphael Beckman from Pensacola, FL)

Secret Machines, Dresden Dolls, The Strokes again, The Pixies would be awesome, Chrissie Hynde....

11. What direction do you think you'll take with your third album? (Leah Rue from Chattanooga, TN)

Pakistani Rap.
