Biography
Atlanta, GA, August 18, 2005: On Tuesday, August 16th, an Atlanta Judge denied Radric Davis, a/k/a Gucci Mane, his request to be released on bond stemming from his arrest on Friday, July 15th, when the ATF, The DEA, and the Miami Vice descended upon him, some of his family members, and Big Cat Records Label Executives while traveling to Miami's Club Wharehouse to promote the success of his debut album, Trap House when a warrant had been issued for his arrest in Atlanta without his knowledge.
"Since when does the Federal Government serve local warrants?" questions Jacob York, CEO of Big Cat Records. "They kept his security and put them through the system when they have permits. They are charging that the security shouldn't be in the presence of Gucci since he is a convicted felon."
During Gucci's arrest, guns were found; however, it was later discovered that the weapons were legally registered to Gucci Mane's bodyguards, who happen to be licensed off duty security officers. Gucci Mane had been out on a $100,000 bond for pending murder charges stemming from a case back in May of 2005. Trouble has been no stranger to the young rapper. "I just can't wait to be cleared of all of the charges that I am being accused of," says Gucci Mane. "I'm extremely happy about the overall success of my album; however, I can not wait to put these legal issues behind me."
The Atlanta Police Department had never investigated the case, or instructed Gucci Mane's attorney or the label about the warrant. "Had we been aware of the assault charge, we would have checked it out prior to our departure to Miami," says York.
Gucci Mane was arrested on aggravated assault charges for allegedly assaulting a former Big Cat Records street promoter who had recently been fired for impersonating his manager by booking the rapper for shows through booking agents and keeping the money. "Once caught with his hand in the cookie jar, the former employee then fled to the Atlanta Police Department with his charges," states York.
Signed to Big Cat Records, Gucci Mane's debut album, Trap House is doing exceptionally well. His single "So Icy" is in heavy rotation all over the world and his album has maintained a top 20 spot on the Billboard Charts for Independent Albums for the entire eight weeks of the album's release. On the road constantly promoting and performing hits from Trap House, his album is packed with hot laid-back comedic flows and catchy hooks that are displayed heavily throughout his album cuts such as "Lawnmower Man" and "Booty Shorts."
