In-Studio Journal

Hey what's up, this is Chris Volz, vocalist of FiveBoltMain coming to you from the studio where we are tracking our debut release for Rock Ridge Music. We are in day five and have finished tracking drums on 12 songs, the sounds are freaking incredible, the bass drum is booming, and everything is moving along ahead of schedule. It's great how this is coming together, the way I wanted to lyrically and musically stay in the same realm of emotions as I did with Flaw, the same intensity and honesty. I am more proud of these new works than I am with anything else I've done, this being said, we will keep this journal updated several times a week for the duration of our recording process. Stay tuned for exclusive video footage soon to follow. See ya!

Hey people, this is Chris V. of FiveBolt sending our regards. Drums and Bass are both complete and guitar is coming along quite well. We are getting a thunderous distortion from Aaron and Chandler (guitars) along with all the help of the new equipment we recieved. Things are really starting to take shape and we can't wait to get to mixdown! This is gonna be intense, slam in the face, emotional metal! Stay tuned as we get closer to the release date.

We are well into week 2 of the tracking process, we have great recordings of drums, bass, and rythm guitars. Aaron just started laying the lead and texture tracks on guitar, and they sound amazing! I start laying vocals at the end of this week and can't wait to get going! Everything is sounding incredible, balls out metal at it's finest! We also got some more great video footage that is being edited as we speak. Stay tuned for more from the FiveBoltMain studio sessions in a few days. Peace!

FUCK GUITARS!!!

Just got home from the studio. Everything is moving along pretty quickly. Aaron's finishing up a few textural guitar things and experimenting. Chris finished up a couple more songs today, and they are sounding great. I believe that makes five songs completely tracked. Every day we leave the studio with a few more pieces in place, and it's really exciting to hear the songs taking shape. Outside of the studio, we're making plans, having meetings, getting stuff in order. Good stuff. Nice, good stuff. It's going to be a very fun summer/fall. Stay tuned for more details.

Whats up everybody? I have good news and bad news. The good news...everything continues to go well in the studio. The bad news...another terrible installment of Star Wars! What a let down! Back to the studio. Chris took the day off to rest his pipes. The vocals are sounding amazing! We continued to track textural guitar parts today. The more I listen to the songs, the more ideas I have. Everybody buy a t-shirt and get ready for the Studio Update #2 Video!!

It's been a hectic week here at the studio. Met with the Rock Ridge guys over the weekend to discuss the album and upcoming video shoot for "Pathetic." Those guys are really down to earth, not what I expected from record executives at all. All of us have a lot of confidence that Tom, Jason, Ben, and Chris are the perfect team for five.bolt.main. Then it was on to a photo shoot with Joey Goldsmith (the BASSGOD).

Chris is tracking "Pathetic" as I write this. He's been sick for a couple of days, but is back at full strength and sounds great. We should finish up vocals over the next few days. We've started mixing some of the tracks and I'm really happy with the results. When it's finished I think we'll have an album that really represents this band in its entirety. Thanks go out to all the Five Bolt Street Teamers and message board kids for all the support. You guys have outdone yourself. The buzz is building, and we have you guys to thank for it.

Peace and Love, Ivan

Wassup from the FiveBolt camp still bustin' ass in the studio. Today I put the finishing touches on a few more vocals, it's sounding too amazing to describe! We already have half of the record mixed and I can't wait for you guys to hear this shit! We should be finished on our end here later this weekend and then it's off to Mastering. It's getting close!!

Five.Bolt.Main All Music Guide Biography

Louisville's Five.Bolt.Main grew out of the hard rock outfit Flaw, which released two albums for Universal in the early 2000s. The label dropped Flaw after 2004's Endangered Species, and lead singer Chris Volz turned to drummer Ivan Arnold and bassist Ben Patrick with the intention of starting a new project. They added guitarists Aaron Welenken and Jason Chandler, and Five.Bolt.Main was born. The band secured a deal with New York-based Rock Ridge Records and issued their debut LP, Venting, in September 2005. ~ Johnny Loftus, All Music Guide
