MTV Overdrive Offers Sneak Peek of Series This Week!

MTV will premiere the comedic reality, “Blowin’ Up” on Tuesday, May 16 at 10:30PM (ET/PT). Each half-hour episode will follow the hilarious Jamie Kennedy and his sidekick, Stu Stone, as they attempt to fulfill their lifelong dream of Hip-Hop superstardom.

The duo set out on an unstoppable and brilliantly funny mission to take on the music industry by storm. Driven by their own original music, which they write, record and perform together, Jamie and Stu knock on every door meeting with top music executives and seeking advice from Hip-Hop’s biggest stars, only to discover, while rappers have no problem breaking into acting, it isn't so simple the other way around. Throughout their journey, Jamie and Stu encounter Three 6 Mafia, Jason Biggs, Russell Simmons, Bow Wow, Bob Saget, Paul Wall, George Lucas, Ice-T, Mena Suvari, DJ AM, Tara Reid, Method Man, Mike Jones, Ed McMahon and other celebrity talent.

“‘Blowin’ Up’ is pure comedy, as Jamie and Stu put their best foot forward in search of music platinum,” said Lois Curren, Executive Vice President, Entertainment and Programming, MTV. “Their unstoppable talent and creativity will shine through in each episode as we showcase original music throughout the season.” “MTV is such a great place for me and my show ‘Blowin’ Up,’ said Jamie Kennedy. “They really understand my love of rap and hip hop in general. They have helped create a funny show to illustrate my journey into the music business and I couldn’t be happier.” Unsure how to break in to the rap game, viewers in the debut episode will see Jamie and Stu hook up with Method Man who offers some friendly advice on how to get noticed in the hip-hop world. Method Man suggests they get a hot guest appearance from a “dope ass rapper” on their first single. Jamie calls in some favors and scores none other than Bob Saget to drop a verse.

Jamie Kennedy All Music Guide Biography

Actor and comedian Jamie Kennedy's work often centers on satirizing not only Hollywood, but also his own film and television career. Born in Upper Darby, PA, in 1970, Kennedy attended and dropped out of Delaware County Community College before moving to Los Angeles to pursue an acting/standup career. After an extended stint of jobs as an extra, Kennedy created the made-up persona of celebrity agent Marty Power, named after the real agent Marty Bauer. Posing as Power over the phone, Kennedy obtained his own standup bookings. His gonzo approach to comedy eventually led to his first film role in Baz Luhrmann's Romeo and Juliet. Subsequently, Kennedy was cast in what is perhaps his best-known role as the horror film fanatic Randy Meeks in the breakout 1996 horror/comedy Scream and its subsequent sequels. This notoriety helped Kennedy secure his own television show, The Jamie Kennedy Experiment, in 2002, which -- despite good initial ratings -- was canceled two years later. Along with this show, Kennedy has also produced such programs as WB's The Starlet and Living with Fran. As a recognizable character and lead actor, Kennedy has acted in numerous films and television shows, including Malibu's Most Wanted about a privileged white son of a U.S. senator who fancies himself an aspiring rap artist. Perhaps not so ironically, Kennedy himself made the foray into hip-hop with the pseudo-reality show Blowin' Up on MTV. Detailing Kennedy and his partner Stu Stone's attempts to record and release a rap album, Blowin' Up resulted in the release of an album of the same title in 2006. ~ Matt Collar, All Music Guide
