Biography
The boys from Nebraska are back with another album chocked full of their signature funky riff-heavy radio-friendly rap rock. 311 was formed in 1990 in Omaha by five friends whose common link was a passion for both music and life that eventually brought them together to make music with a positive message behind it.
Singer/guitarist Nick Hexum took time out of his busy schedule to make ARTISTdirect a mixtape!
"Last time I made a playlist it was all schizophrenic. Punk, indie-rock, reggae, metal. Not something you'd want to hear all in a row. This time I made it like a nice mix CD. Something you'd like to hear on a Saturday afternoon. All in a row.
1. Brendan Benson - "Cold Hand (Warm Heart)"
My favorite singer/songwriter. This song should be a hit. He's got so many good ones.
2. Wilco – "Can’t Stand It"
What a cool intro.
3. Massive Attack - "Neighborhood"
The album Mezzanine is a masterpiece and this song featuring reggae great Horace Andy is my favorite track.
4. Jason Falkner - "Neighbor"
From his new EP, Bliss Descending. Jason is a power pop genius.
5. The Zombies - "The Way I Feel Inside"
I heard this song on "The Life Aquatic." The Zombies were great pop songsmiths unfortunately overshadowed by the Beatles. I think I'm going to cover this track.
6. Electric Light Orchestra – "Sweet Talkin’ Woman"
A masterpiece. It's my ringtone when my girl calls me.
7. The Shins – "Caring is Creepy"
Such creative melodies and arrangements! The words are sometimes a little cryptic, but when I read the lyrics then they officially became my favorite band for awhile.
8. Rhett Miller - "World Inside The World"
The singer from the Old 97's made a fantastic debut solo album.
9. Squeeze - "Goodbye Girl"
A great breakup song.
10. The Flamingos - "I Only Have Eyes for You"
One of the greatest love songs ever written.
