Rob Zombie and Anthrax's Frank Bello are luminaries in the hard rock world. Everyone knows who they are. There's no question about their sphere of influence, either.
However, the twosome are about to separately invade and enter the Toronto International Film Festival, which takes place Sept. 3-16, for similar yet different film endeavors.
Rob Zombie's sixth feature film, The Lords of Salem, will get its worldwide premiere at the festival. Zombie wrote, directed and produced it in tandem with the producers of the Paranormal Activity franchise. Filmed in Los Angeles and Salem, MA, The Lords of Salem stars Patricia Quinn, Maria Conchita Alonso, Clint Howard, Dee Wallace and Billy Drago, and is, according to Zombie, "probably the bleakest of all my films, a long, slow decent into the bowels of Hell."
The bowls of Hell, huh? That's where most horror fans like to reside! We can't wait to see it, Rob Zombie.
Zombie's next film project will be Broad Street Bullies, based on the infamous hockey team the Philadelphia Flyers, who last won the Stanley Cup when this girl was born, three miles outside of Philadelphia. No joke. Someone's father left the delivery room to go to the game! Uh huh.
Anthrax bassist Frank Bello makes his feature film debut in the supporting role of punk rock legend Richard Hell in the biopic Greetings From Tim Buckley. The film stars Penn Badgley, Imogene Poots, William Sadler and U.K. pop star Kate Nash. Bello auditioned for the role on a Thursday, was cast on Friday and reported to the set the following Monday, the morning after Anthrax's big Yankee Stadium concert last September with The Big Four (Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax.) That's what we call a trooper. Nice work ethic, Frankie Bello.
"I had a seven day shooting schedule in New York," said Bello. "And while I love acting and want to do more of it, Anthrax is and always will be my first priority."
That's fine. We know the 'Thrax is your numero uno priority. But you can diverge from the path a little with a film, Frank! Again, we can't wait to see your acting chops.
Are you planning to see either film?
