Village People Cop Back in the J.A.I.L.
Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Victor Willis, better known as the original cop from disco group The Village People, is back behind bars after being arrested for cocaine possession last Sunday (March 26th) in San Francisco. Willis was also arrested for the same crime last July, but skipped out on a sentencing hearing in October and has been missing ever since.Because of his disappearance, Willis forfeits a plea bargain that would have led to a prison term of 16 months or less. Instead, he now faces at least four years behind bars, pending his sentencing on new charges.
It's not clear where Willis has been hiding all this time or how he managed to avoid authorities, but during the traffic stop that led to his arrest, he did give police a false name, although he lacked any form of identification.
During his stint with The Village People, Willis co-wrote and sang lead vocals on many of the group's biggest hits, including "In the Navy" and "YMCA." After he left the group, he was replaced by Ray Sampson, who wears the Village People cop uniform to this day.
