Oscar winners get the key to Memphis, plan to visit Paris...Hilton, that is.
Three 6 Mafia Honored by Hometown
The honors keep rolling in for Three 6 Mafia. Still basking in the afterglow of their much-discussed Oscar victory for their contribution to Hustle & Flow, the rappers returned to their native Memphis this weekend for a VIP reception at the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum. There, Juicy J, Crunchy Black and DJ Paul received presentations from the City of Memphis, Beale Street Brass Note Committee, and the museum itself. The honors included a key to their hometown. The Rock 'n' Soul Museum -- located, appropriately, on Beale Street and, not so appropriately, in a venue called FedExForum -- was hosting its second "Memphis Music Salute." The first permanent plaque to go up on their walls was in honor of the funk group The Bar-Kays.
The Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum is a relatively new addition to the city, having opened in 2000, and was the first outside exhibition to ever be developed by the Smithsonian Institute in conjunction with another museum.
Looking to prove that they are indeed Smithsonian-worthy, Three 6 Mafia is ready to put award season behind them and start cracking on new projects. The group has been inundated with requests from potential collaborators, and though they've had to learn how to say "No," they've given an enthusiastic "Yes" to Paris Hilton, who has already spent some time in the studio with them.
Why Paris? "It will be a blast working with Paris Hilton," Juicy J explained. "I mean, she is Paris Hilton."
