Stones frontman to play himself in new ABC comedy.
Mick Jagger, Sitcom Muse
It’s the first rule of Hollywood: if you can’t get Jeff Goldblum, you’d better get Mick Jagger on the phone.ABC has greenlit production on a pilot from Ed creators (and former Letterman writers) Rob Burnett and Jon Beckerman, a comedy that originally made the rounds as “I Want to Rob Jeff Goldblum.” Goldblum was never attached to the project -- and is tied to another pilot at rival network NBC -- but was an integral part of the premise, which seems to boil down to this: a janitor recruits his buddies to rob a celebrity. Naturally, madcap hilarity ensues.
Instead of the Jurassic Park star, cast member Donal Logue and company will now focus their thievery on the spindly rock icon. Jagger is shooting his scenes while the Rolling Stones take a breather from their world tour; if the pilot gets picked up and goes to series, it is believed that Jagger will appear sporadically throughout -- although the show’s title will not reference his name.
The thespian side of Jagger has previously memorably emerged -- for better or worse --in such far-flung roles as the Australian outlaw Ned Kelly and the futuristic bounty hunter Victor Vacendak (Freejack).
So…is the new show funny? Anyone overly anxious to find out can hit the black market, where copies of the pilot -- sans Jagger’s scenes -- are reportedly circulating. How can this premise be stretched out for an entire season? That we can't help you with.
