Fall Out Boy: Not "Kidz" Stuff
Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz -- the hit band's most ubiquitous member --has finally found a form of exposure that makes him uneasy: the compilation Kidz Bop 10, which features chirpy young performers playing group karaoke on some of today's hottest hits. And, yes, that's Kidz Bop 10 as in "the tenth volume in the series." Not hip? More than just a novelty act, the records are a commercial force; Kidz Bop 9 debuted at #2 on the Billboard Top 200.Kidz Bop 10 was to include Fall Out Boy's "Dance, Dance." So what's the harm with reaching out to the kids, Pete? "I can't imagine some young kids singing 'crawling into bed with me' and all," he wrote on his blog, referring to the song's sexually charged lyrics. The Kidz Bop label, Razor & Tie, only had to pay publishing fees; song usage is not contingent on artist approval.
Nevertheless, Fall Out Boy has disappeared from the Kidz Bop 10 -- and of course it has nothing to do with the band's negative reaction and the media attention it attracted, according to Razor & Tie.
It isn't the first time that Kidz Bop has been accused of getting a little too risqué. There are plenty of lustful love songs in the previous nine discs, and a video of Avril Lavigne's "Sk8r Boi" starred a young girl in braces -- and fishnets and heavy eye shadow.
As for Fall Out Boy, the emo-rockers had to cancel a show in Paris this week after the bag containing singer Patrick Stump's passport was yanked by a thief at a club in the UK.
