Coldplay singer gets too "rocky" for his label's liking.
No Nelly! Chris Martin Duet Chopped from Furtado's Album
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin recorded a duet with Nelly Furtado for her new album, Loose. But listeners will notice that the duet, "All Good Things (Come To An End)," has turned solo on the final cut. Furtado says that when the suits at Martin's record label heard their sensitive, multi-platinum singer cutting a little too loose on Loose, they yanked him off the record."Chris's label didn't want his voice sounding so rocky, so they said we couldn't use the song," Furtado reported. "Now it's on the album with just me singing it."
Loose is set for release on June 20th, and features the hit single "Promiscuous." A second single, "Maneater," is catching fire on charts outside the U.S..
Martin previously recorded guest vocals for The Streets, but Streets main man Mike Skinner later said that, again, Martin's record company didn't approve of the results.
Meanwhile, Furtado has forced NBA point guard Steve Nash to clarify that he has never had a duet of a different kind with the "Promiscuous" singer. Furtado name-checks Nash in the hit single ("Is your game MVP like Steve Nash?"), but it turns out that she's really just talking about his basketball game -- a platonic shout-out from one Canadian to another.
"I'm flattered that she put me in her new song," Nash said, "but I'm completely in love with my wife."
