Eminem, Kim Proceed With Divorce
People holding out for a happy ending in the ongoing domestic drama between Eminem and two-time wife Kim Mathers were dealt another blow this week, as divorce proceedings continued behind closed doors. Lawyers from both sides met with the two dueling spouses, along with Court Referee -- yes, they are actually called referees -- David Elias.Kim is said to be looking for financial help from her wealthy hubby (including attorney fees) and, possibly more distressing to Slim Shady, joint custody of 10-year-old daughter Hailie. Both sides are expected to finish their depositions and evaluations by August 25, and a settlement conference is scheduled for September 19 -- which means that when all is said and done, the divorce proceedings will have lasted slightly longer than the actual marriage.
The first marriage between the longtime sweethearts lasted from 1999 to 2001. The most recent ride lasted a scant 82 days before Eminem pulled the plug. The divorce is attracting a reliable barrage of press and paparazzi, forcing Eminem to enter the Detroit-area courthouse through an underground tunnel and private elevator.
The rapper has reportedly been taking antidepressants to help him handle the stress of a dissolving marriage and the death of his close friend and ex-bandmate Proof. Another source told the New York Daily News that Eminem had previously been shut up in his house, gaining weight and not wanting to work on any new projects.
"He is depressed as anyone would be if they lost someone that close," said Em spokesman Dennis Dennehy. "He had announced he was taking time off before this happened. It's his downtime."
The downtime will soon be ending, as Eminem is set to star in Have Gun Will Travel, which Paramount has put on the fast track.
