Crystal Method Syncs Up With Nike, iPod
The Crystal Method has released a new 45-minute, 10-track mix called Drive, designed specifically to get you moving on the treadmill. The release is the first of what is expected to be a series of workout mixes commissioned for the recent partnership between Nike and Apple, whose Sport Kit allows users to monitor their workout information -- calories burned, etc. -- on the screens of their iPod nano, thanks to a small sensor in their special pair of Nikes. Further confounding the technology-phobes in your family, the Sport Kit also allows you to plug your iPod into your computer to chart your workout performance history or challenge other runners to virtual races.Writing for the gym instead of the club proved to be a challenge for The Crystal Method. "We weren't quite sure how our breakdowns and builds would play to runners," Ken Jordan told Billboard. "But we tested the tracks on a few of our runner friends, and they especially liked those moments."
"This Nike project is totally off the wall," added Scott Kirkland. "And in a way, it's setting the bar for our next record."
Drive includes new tracks as well as few remixes, including an original dub of the Doors vs. Crystal Method "Roadhouse Blues" mash-up and a Rogue Element remix of "Bad Ass." The beats are built to make you run, starting mellow and building to a frenzied peak before relaxing into the final stretch.
