The Pink Spiders pick their Top 10 Underrated Bands

The Pink Spiders told us about the: "Top 10 Underrated Bands"

    10. The Boys:
"To Hell with the Boys" is a classic. Unfortunately, way too many people still confuse them with Dead Boys.

    9. The Replacements:
One of those bands whose self-destructive nature was part of their appeal and part of the reason they're still underappreciated. Their story should be taught in schools.

    8. The Features:
The Features are a Murfreesboro, TN band that's been around for almost a decade now. Their record "Exhibit A" was way ahead of the curb and should be in more record collections.

    7. Jellyfish:
Jellyfish records are sonically perfect. The melodies, harmonies, changes and structures are all spot on and what you naturally expect, yet so interesting and exciting that it's undeniable.

    6. Against Me!:
"...As the Eternal Cowboy" is one of the best records of this century with an amazing live show to match. Against Me! is perfect drinking music.

    5. Elvis Costello & the Attractions/Nick Lowe:
Easily the best backing band of all time playing perfect pop songs written by Costello. A lot of people love 'em but still not nearly enough. 30 years later, they're still ahead of their time. Stiff Records counterpart Nick Lowe is one of those guys with a ton of songs you know but didn't know you knew...go buy Pure Pop for Now People now.

    4. The Beach Boys:
Many people associate the Beach Boys with their string of surf related pop hits but Pet Sounds and the recently completed Smile show that their depth, beauty and complexity combined with pop sensibility place them among the greatest rock n roll bands in history.

    3. Devo:
Devo revolutionized rock n roll by integrating electronic sounds into their music and paving the way for New Wave and Power Pop. Easily one of the most influential groups of all time, for some reason they're still considered one hit wonders.

    2. Cheap Trick:
Cheap Trick are the Rodney Dangerfield of rock n roll. They've sold over 40 million records and toured the world for over 25 years, yet they're still opening for bands like Pearl Jam and Aerosmith here in 2006. Something is wrong with this world.

    1. The Pink Spiders:
    No explanation necessary.

Honorable Mention: Eddie and the Hotrods, The Privates, X-Ray Specs, Big Star, The Romantics
