Jay Kay lashes out at photographers, then gets a lesson in humility.
Jamiroquai Singer in Paparazzi Dustup
The paparazzi allow celebrities no peace, as Jamiroquai singer Jay Kay was reminded as he left a London nightclub in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. As photographers snapped away, Kay lost his cool and reportedly engaged in a brief brawl with a pair of cameramen. Then he insulted the police for good measure. Kay later received a "caution" for his behavior."At approximately 2 a.m. this morning an officer on routine patrol in Upper John Street was alerted to a large crowd of people, including photographers, outside a nightclub," said a Scotland Yard spokesperson. "A man approached the officer and alleged he had been assaulted at the scene. He did not require hospital treatment. There are no further details about injuries."
One of the beaten photographers, Alessandro Copetti, reported, "Kay came out of the club, quite visibly drunk and just suddenly launched a vicious attack on us. He kept calling us 'gay boys from the south' and said he could take all of us on."
Well, Jay Kay showed them! Ironically, however, the paparazzi weren't really interested in the "Virtual Insanity" singer; instead, they were trying to snap shots of bona fide A-lister Lindsay Lohan, who was partying inside the same club.
Kay, to be fair, is more of a tabloid target in the UK than one may imagine here in the States, where he presumably has no trouble having his wish for privacy granted.
"As well as success with the funk band [Jamiroquai], Jay Kay is known for his taste in unusual hats and his love of sports cars," noted the BBC.
