Even though they have some practice with divorce court, Eminem and two-time wife Kim Mathers were unable to agree to the terms of their second separation. The two sides are apparently still optimistic that they will reach a settlement and thus not have to go to trial, but they will turn to attorney Dan Stepek to mediate after not making any progress during a private meeting this week. If Stepek isn't able to build a bridge over the Mathers family's troubled waters, they will head to court on December 19th.

"We didn't settle it, so all we did was set it for mediation," said Macomb County Circuit Judge Antonio Viviano, who made the appointment of Stepek. Afterwards, Kim Mathers did not comment, and Em managed to elude the press entirely. Their attorneys were left behind to put a positive spin on the latest development.

"Mr. Mathers' only concern is the welfare of his children," said Eminem's attorney, Harvey Hauer. "Hopefully, we'll put the matter behind us."

The couple has one daughter together, Hailie, and Em is also the legal guardian of his half-brother, while Kim has a second daughter and is also raising her niece.

"Like Marshall…what she really wants is the welfare of the children," added Michael J. Smith, attorney for Kim Mathers. "The parties are hopeful that it will be settled amicably."

Not much about the couple's public relationship has been amicable so far. Some of Eminem's most vitriolic material was inspired by his first separation with Kim, and their latest estrangement came only 82 days after their second wedding.
