Singer-heiress faces possible fine and probation after driving on a margarita and empty stomach.

Paris Charged with DUI, Goes to Oktoberfest

Paris Hilton was formally slapped with charges on Tuesday of driving under the influence earlier this month, an arrest that briefly left the heiress handcuffed and was Christmas in September for the ever-present throng of paparazzi trailing behind her.

"We are going to proceed with the judicial process," said Hilton attorney Elliot Mentz, saying that he had not spoken to his client. The filing was routine, and Nick Velasquez, a spokesman for the city's prosecutor office, said that Hilton was just being treated like any other defendant.

Paris is scheduled to be arraigned in Superior Court on September 28th, but will not need to be present.

In explaining herself to radio personality and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest, Hilton said that she had been leaving a charity event on an empty stomach, and apparently a single margarita was enough to push her blood-alcohol level up to 0.08 percent. She added that "maybe I was speeding a little bit," but denied charges that she had been driving recklessly.

Anxious to repair her image, Paris made an appearance in Munich at Oktoberfest, where she donned a traditional dirndl -- a tight bodice with a low neck -- much to the delight of German Oktoberfesters. The appearance was part of a promotional tour she is doing for a German wine producer, and marked her first time at the famed event.

"I love Germany and Munich is one of the coolest cities," said the Oktoberfest virgin.
