Snoop Surrenders to Police
Snoop Dogg turned himself into authorities on Monday morning (November 6th), responding to an arrest warrant that was issued for him in connection with a charge that he carried a weapon -- a collapsible baton -- onto an airplane departing from John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California. Snoop arrived at the Orange County Jail in a purple Porsche Carrera, and was released shortly thereafter on $150,000 bail. The rap star is sticking to his story that the baton was merely a prop that was to be used in an upcoming movie, an argument his attorneys will presumably use when Snoop appears in court on December 12th to answer the charge. If convicted, he would face up to three years behind bars.
"This charge mocks the protections our country has in place to safeguard itself from real security threats and is celebrity head-hunting by attention-seeking prosecutors," said Snoop spokeswoman Meredith O'Sullivan. O'Sullivan said that Snoop "welcomes an expedited trial." His attorney, Donald Etra, chimed in by saying that the charges were "bogus," but complimented the Orange County Sheriff's Department for treating his client very well.
Snoop has had bad luck with airports this year, having been busted on gun and drug possession charges at an airport in Burbank last month. Earlier this year, he was smacked with a lifetime ban from British Airways after his entourage was involved in an altercation in London's Heathrow Airport.
He'll likely need to log some more runway time in the near future, however, as he has a new album, Tha Blue Carpet Treatment, scheduled for release on November 21st.
