CartHilary Duff and Joel Madden Call It Quits

The rock couples continue to drop like flies, kids. The latest casualty of the rock 'n' roll lifestyle: the two-and-a-half year relationship between pop princess Hilary Duff and tattooed Good Charlotte frontman Joel Madden. Good Charlotte's manager, Steve Feinberg, confirmed the breakup today (November 28th) with People magazine, saying, "We are not going to elaborate on Joel's personal life but I will say they have split."
Rumors of the split began circulating last week after Madden made a celebrity DJ appearance at a nightclub in Chicago and reportedly told fans that Duff had dumped him because of the pair's eight-year age difference (Madden is 27; Duff is 19). One witness told People that Joel "seemed pretty upset."
The punk icon and the pop starlet kept their relationship secret until about a year ago, when they began appearing together in public and Madden produced several tracks that appeared on Most Wanted, a Duff greatest-hits package.
Just last month, Madden told People that in Duff he had found "the perfect person." "I never have to question if she's going to be there, because I know she will be," Madden said. Ouch.
Good Charlotte are due to release their next album early in 2007. Think it'll have a few lovelorn breakup songs on it?
