20th Century Fox claims TV show came too close to Coach Snoop film.
Snoop Dogg Reality Show Sacked by Lawsuit
Cancel your plans for the Snooperbowl, folks. A reality television series that was set to depict Snoop Dogg and his league of 9- to 12-year-old football players has been shelved due to a lawsuit claiming that 20th Century Fox has "exclusive rights to portray Snoop in any motion picture or television project or other production based on Snoop's involvement with his sons' football teams and leagues."The planned TV show was to follow Snoop on and off the field as he led his son's youth football team into battle, culminating with a "Snooperbowl" championship that was timed to take place around the real Super Bowl weekend.
The problem arose because of Coach Snoop, an upcoming feature film written by Mark Gibson and Phillip Halprin. Due in 2008, Coach Snoop follows Snoop as he -- you guessed it -- signs up to coach his son's youth football team. Fox reportedly shelled out a million bucks for the pitch; they are not explicitly named, however, as a defendant in the suit, which seeks $250,000 in damages. Snoop's attorney, Donald Etra (busy man, that one), refused comment on the matter.
"The film is about how I learned to be a good father through coaching," Snoop told The Hollywood Reporter. "It's also about life lessons learned on and off the field. But most importantly during the football season, if you aren't wearing a helmet, get the f**k away from me. Football first; everything else second."
