"Screamgirls" tie for first place in fashion critic's 47th annual list.
Britney and Paris Named Blackwell's "Worst Dressed"
When they hit the town together, instant gal-pals Britney Spears and Paris Hilton were inseparable. So it's not a surprise that, when trying to choose between them, longtime fashion critic Mr. Blackwell was left at a loss -- and so granted both of them the No. 1 spot on his "Worst Dressed" list for 2006."Two peas in an overexposed pod," Blackwell wrote of the duo, dubbing them the "Screamgirls." Both Britney and Paris have been in Blackwell's crosshairs in previous years, but his pithy barbs weren't limited to just the "winners." Runner-up Camilla Parker-Bowles earned the name "Duchess of Dowdy." "In feathered hats that were once the rage, she resembles a petrified parakeet from the Jurassic age," said Blackwell, who was a fashion designer himself before making an even bigger name as a fashion attack dog. Third place listmaker Lindsay Lohan was accused of transitioning from "adorable to deplorable."
Mr. Blackwell wasn't done busting rhymes. Mariah Carey (#5), who often looks like she's painted on her dresses, is "Mariah, the fashion pariah." Christina Aguilera (#4) got props for her singing ability, but that didn't save her wardrobe from being dismissed as "all crass and no class." "From Streep you could weep," he said of acting icon Meryl Streep (#10). "Her beauty of a career cannot be denied, but that beast of a wardrobe is pure mother of the bride."
Rounding out the top 10: Sharon Stone, Paula Abdul, Sandra Oh, and Tori Spelling.
Not everyone drew a dis, though; Mr. Blackwell had words of praise for "fabulous fashion independents" like Kate Winslet, Heidi Klum, Beyonce, and, most obviously, new Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.
