Drew Barrymore Splits with Strokes Guitarist
The tabloids are reporting that Drew Barrymore has called it quits with Strokes guitarist Fabrizio Moretti. The cutesy couple had been through some ups and downs since they got together in April 2002, but sources have told Us Weekly that this time the separation is the real deal, and Moretti is back to the bachelor lifestyle in his own apartment."He's younger, and she's more worldly," another Barrymore friend said. "He doesn't like the Hollywood stuff. He doesn't get her friends." Barrymore is 31, while Moretti is 26.
"Drew has always had a taste for subculture," sagely friend Courtney Love explained to the magazine. There is no indication that Barrymore started losing interest in Moretti because his band isn't the hot ticket it was circa 2002, so don't even think about it.
In the current issue of Harper's Bazaar, Barrymore declared, "Right now I'm in a phase of, 'I'm not even your girlfriend. I'm your best friend who is madly in love with you.' The longest I've ever been with someone was like two to three years, so I'm in uncharted waters. Right now I'm into championing him as a human being."
Well, The Strokes could use some more championing these days -- but it seems that Barrymore's praise will be platonic from now on, although representatives for the couple have not officially confirmed the split. Moretti is set to join a distinguished (and not-so-distinguished) list of Drew castoffs, ranging from actors Luke Wilson and Tom Green to Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson and restaurateur Jeremy Thomas; she had married Green and Thomas.
