Rage Against the Machine Reunion Tops Coachella Lineup
The annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is expanding from two to three days this year, and they're already proving that they have enough heavy hitters to fill an extra day. Festival organizers have confirmed that rap-rock kingpins Rage Against the Machine will be reuniting -- possibly for one night only -- to headline the final night of the festival (Sunday, April 29th) in Indio, California. On tap to close out the other nights: Bjork (Friday) and the Red Hot Chili Peppers (Saturday). The confirmations didn't stop there; other bands set to rock the desert include Arctic Monkeys, The Roots, Kings of Leon, The Arcade Fire, Interpol, The Decemberists, Air, Sonic Youth, and Mr. Willie Nelson. And that's just from the first batch of announcements.
Rage Against the Machine have not performed together since 2000; frontman Zach de la Rocha mostly faded from the public eye thereafter while the other three members formed the decidedly less political Audioslave alongside singer Chris Cornell. Rage co-headlined the inaugural Coachella with Tool in 1999.
They won't be the only reunion rocking the desert, as '80s pop-rockers Crowded House and Scottish feedback maestros The Jesus and Mary Chain have also been lured out of hibernation by Coachella's famously generous check-writers.
