Fall Out Boy Fight Album Leak with New Music
Despite rumors to the contrary, Fall Out Boy are sticking to February 6th as the release date for their hotly anticipated Infinity on High, despite the album being leaked online last weekend. But the band does have a trick up their sleeves to combat would-be pirates and gun-jumpers: the inclusion of a live EP to sweeten the pot for everyone who buys the album legally. They're cheekily calling the EP Leaked in London, and will be recording it Monday (January 29th) at their sold-out show at the Hammersmith Palais in London. Anyone who buys or preorders Infinity on High will be given a special key to go to the band's website, FallOutBoyRock.com, and download the EP.
"This isn't the end of the world," bassist Pete Wentz said of the leak. "[But] it certainly feels pretty terrible. We understand those who have to sneak a peek at the presents under the tree the night before, but please remember that as the music industry changes more and more, we only put out a record so we can keep touring and traveling. We want to keep this going for as long as possible."
The good news for Fall Out Boy is that their lead single, "This Ain't a Scene, It's An Arms Race," is already shooting up the Billboard charts, jumping to #2 (just behind Beyonce's "Irreplaceable") on the strength of a whopping 162,000 digital downloads -- the largest opening-week number since the industry began tracking downloads in 2003.
