    The Singles Roundup - Feb. 9, 2007

    Fri, 09 Feb 2007 14:49:34

In the interest of exposing you, in one fell swoop, to some of the best new singles humming on the ARTISTdirect airwaves each week, we're kicking off a regular singles roundup feature, to be curated by a rotating cast of our editors each Friday.

So without further ado, here's ten tracks that have us hitting 'repeat'...

    Lil' Mama: Lip Gloss [stream]
Sixteen-year-old Lil' Mama hotwires Fannypack-style street sass to Kelis' gloss over top a kickin' knick-knack-paddywhack beat.

Amy Winehouse: You Know I’m No Good feat. Ghostface Killah [stream]
Wu member Ghostface Killah raps rugburns into the high-pile richness of Amy Winehouse's Motown-sound. Girl’s got pipes.

    The Postmarks: Goodbye [stream]
A downy-soft pop gem that whisks you away to a land of upbeat wistfulness where break-ups are just another reason for a new journey.

Snoop Dogg: Candy feat. E-40, MCEiht, Goldie Loc, Daz & Kurupt [video]
Bay Area hyphy man E-40 makes stealing a song from Snoop look like taking candy from a baby. Candy is handy.

Fujiya & Miyagi: Ankle Injuries [stream]
Postal Service meets Galaxy 500 in this disco pastoral with nonsensical (but alluring) lyrics culled from the dreamscape scrapheap.

    Essie Jain: Haze [stream]
Starting with just piano and Jain's simple, almost choral, vocals this track builds to a rousing, nay, inspirational finish. Recommended for Joni fans.

Albert Hammond Jr: In Transit [stream]
Guitar parts as simple and catchy as you’d rightfully expect from this Strokes member – but Hammond injects the formula with an extra layer of dreamy sunshine for maximal irresistibility.

    Ne-Yo: Because of You [stream]
The weird part about this so-smooth single from Ne-Yo is that just when you think you’ve gotten to the bridge, it ends. But that also makes it the perfect tease.

    Locksley: Why Not Me [stream]
Rowdy pop-rock in the best Brit tradition (but straight outta Brooklyn). Raise a glass, then pour it on yourself and keep dancing.

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: Love Song No. 7 [stream]
If you don’t mind a little warble ‘n whine in your vocals, this piano creeper off of CYHSY’s new album provides a cozy li’l indie cocoon.
