Brit Awards Announce Winners

Last night, London hosted the annual Brit Awards, which is just like the Grammys except that the judges have better taste in music. The award ceremony recognizes the best of British music and intermittently, throughout the night, recognizes that there are also musicians outside the UK.

Sheffield upstarts the Arctic Monkeys won both best British group and best British album. The Killers took home the international group of the year award. The oldest boy band—or rather, man-band—Take That won the public vote for best British single award for their hit song "Patience," and the prog-rock trio Muse took home the best live act award.

One of the more notable awards of the night went to London's very own Amy Winehouse, an exemplary soul and jazz singer who was recognized as the best British female solo artist. The truly deserving Winehouse was acknowledged based on her brilliant second record Back to Black, which features the infectuous single "Rehab." While the record has been out in the UK since last year, it comes out in America on March 13 (Universal).
