The Darkness Start New Record, Without Justin Hawkins

The Brit metal band is back together for more "rock-based music of exceptional quality," but where's the lead singer?
The Darkness Start New Record, Without Justin Hawkins
In our accelerated culture, the gap between break-up and reunion is increasingly shrinking. Why, it was just last year when singer Justin Hawkins announced that he was departing British metal phenomena the Darkness. But today, the band declared a reformation... without Hawkins. In his stead, the band's bassist, Richie Edwards, will take over vocal duties. On Edwards' MySpace page, he wrote, "It's finally happened, the 'big red record button' has been pressed and we've officially started our album." We'll have to wait quite some time to hear how all of this works out, but we remember that the most notable component of the Darkness was Hawkin's impressive falsetto, and, well, we've never heard Edwards sing.
Hawkins quit the band to go into rehab, after he went public with a cocaine and alcohol addiction. We've been without a rock star in a leopard-print unitard ever since.
