Dntel Prepares to Release New Album
Jimmy Tamborello, half the creative force behind the emotronica duo the Postal Service, is releasing Dumb Luck, an album under his Dntel alias, on April 24th (Sub Pop). The record, which was five years in the making, will feature collaborations with Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst, Rilo Kiley's Jenny Lewis, and Grizzly Bear's Ed Droste."It's been a long time in the making, for a variety of reasons. There were a few people that I wrote for that didn't work out. For some people, I wrote like eight different tracks. You kind of don't know if it's going to work out until it's done... especially if you're working with strangers," he told MTV.com. "When I started this one, it was right after I finished the first one [2001's Life Is Full of Possibilities], because once you've finished one thing, it's on to the next thing."
Dumb Luck is Tamborello's third release under the Dntel name, but eager fans are anticipating a release by the glitch artist's other gig with Death Cab For Cutie's Ben Gibbard. "Sub Pop has never given us a deadline [for a new Postal Service record], and we're trying our best to make it in the same environment we made the first one: We have to keep reminding ourselves that we're doing it for fun and trying to keep things casual," he added. "And that's pretty difficult to do, to be honest. I have to keep reminding myself that it doesn't have to sound like a giant mainstream pop record just because the last one got to so many people. I have to remember how the last one sounded—lo-fi and in my comfort level of production—and I want to stay that way."
The Postal Service's Give Up sold nearly 400,000 records and is Sub Pop's most popular record, aside from Nirvana's debut Bleach.
