Lead singer of U2 plans to turn uptown magazine's attention to Africa

Bono To Guest Edit Vanity Fair

Today, the New York Times reports that Bono will guest edit the July issue of Vanity Fair. In the issue, he will attempt to rebrand Africa as a more relatable place.

"We need to get better at storytelling," Bono said. "We've got to get better at telling the success stories of Africa in addition to the horror stories. And this magazine tells great stories."

"Bono will make a different issue about Africa than we would," said Graydon Carter, editor of the magazine. "I think there isn't one editor in the world who would not pay attention if Bono pulled up and said he wanted to edit a magazine."

This is not the first time that the lead singer of U2 traded in his sunglasses for editing glasses. Last year, he served as guest editor of the British newspaper the Independent as well as the French publication Liberation.

"I want this issue to be a best-selling issue of Vanity Fair, I want to make a hit record," Bono continued. "These are the best writers in America. I want to turn some of these novels into pop songs...I don't want the reader to be weighed down."
