R.E.M. Begins Work on New Album

After R.E.M.'s 13th record Around The Sun underwhelmed critics and fans alike, the Athens, Georgia band is returning to the studio to record the follow-up with producer Jacknife Lee, the man responsible for Bloc Party's A Weekend In The City and U2's How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb. There are no further details regarding the release as of yet, although bassist Mike Mills did tell Billboard that he thought "this next record might have a little more rock to it."

Also, tonight, R.E.M. is being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder. Bill Berry, the since-retired drummer of the band, will reunite with Michael Stipe, Mike Mills, and Peter Buck for a one-time performance.
