Ministers Concerned Over Elton John Appearance

    Wed, 21 Mar 2007 11:28:20

Church leaders on Caribbean island believe the "Rocket Man" might inspire too much, er, gaiety

Church leaders from Tobago in the Caribbean Islands are protesting and lobbying for organizers of the Plymouth Jazz Festival to reconsider an Elton John appearance at the upcoming festival. The religious lobbyists are concerned that John's very presence will turn the locals into homosexuals.

"His visit to the island can open the country to be tempted towards pursuing his lifestyle," said Philip Isaac, the archdeacon of Trinidad and Tobago. But he also expressed sympathy for John as a lost soul: "The artist is one of God's children, and while his lifestyle is questionable, he needs to be ministered onto."

Festival organizer Anthony Maharaj defends the John appearance saying, "We should be honoured to have him. This is a man who was knighted by the queen, who was highly complimented by Desmond Tutu." Granted, this was also a man who once wore a Donald Duck costume on stage, but we'll let that one slide.
