Tour Dispatch #5: London and Paris

Tour blog #5!!! London and Paris.

On Sunday night we finally played Kentish Town Forum. I wanted to play there for ages 'cause it's a cool venue. I've seen Ash, Libertines, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dinosaur Jr., and Buzzcocks there. Maybe someone else too but enough about that. The show was in support of Anti-Slavery International, who at the 200th anniversary of abolition highlights the fact that there's still about 12 million slaves in the world today. Anything from child workers to sex slaves. You name it! It was quite a hectic night for organizers who had to tear their timetables to pieces over and over. We ended up playing 5 songs (was gonna do 6), but curfew was approaching fast. Cool little blast of energy it was tho! Supergrass and Ed Harcourt also contributed, as did our old friend Natty, who engineered our first album, and was tonight playing his acoustic guitar. Sweet. Afterwards we jumped into a van and drove to Hawley Arms, where we drank and had fun til early next morning. Met a lot of people I haven't seen in a while. Sweet again!

A few days earlier we got the Eurostar to Paris. That's a train that goes through a tunnel below the English Channel to France. Promo was on the menu. No gigs unfortunately, but we'll be back there soon to do that. First day was quite lame, with a few interviews for me and a cancelled photo shoot. Got a bit moody and tired (OK, I guess I'm a little big jet-lagged after coming back from the States, even though i have problems admitting that...) so to cheer us up me, Björn, and Kumar (our tour manager, or road manager if you prefer that term) went to see Arcade Fire play at the Olympia (where we're playing on June 20th). I really enjoyed the gig, not sure if they did. They were both ill anyway, so I ended up staying on my own after the show. Got into the aftershow and bought a beer. Tried to talk with some Quebec Canadians, but they were a bit weird towards me, or maybe it was the other way around ... hmm ... anyway, the friendliest person I found in there was originally from Texas, there you go.

Next day was TV day and we played our song "America" on the show Taratata. Pretty cool show with different kinds of live music. Mostly French acts (always one French Canadian) and us, English/Swedish Razorlight. But it was cool. Then we did another show, miming in front of a bunch of kids. Didn't really feel as cool as the other one. But things are going well in France, so alles gut. It was a long day though, and I couldn't wait to get on the crew bus back to London that night. Zzzzzz.
