But please, don't call him "Sir Bono"
Bono Becomes a Knight
Paul Hewson, better known as the U2 frontman and political activist Bono, became a knight of the British empire today—an honor he now shares will such fellow knightly rock stars as Paul McCartney, Elton John, and Mick Jagger.Officially, Bono's new honorary title is Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. He cannot, however, be addressed as "Sir Bono"—the "sir" title is reserved for British citizens, and Bono is Irish.
After receiving the honor in an informal ceremony in Dublin, Bono told reporters, "You have permission to call me anything you want—except sir, all right? Lord of lords, your demigodness, that'll do."
